Child-centered education in the heart of Portugal
Your child follows their curiosity through hands-on projects; learns in both Portuguese and English; and explores math, science, and social studies concepts in small groups under the guidance of skilled, caring teachers. Emotional well-being and connection with nature are priorities, not afterthoughts. Learning is truly personalized, ensuring each child feels both supported and challenged. Every day begins and ends with a community circle, strengthening classroom bonds.
This is Clonlara Idanha—a school where every activity builds confidence, critical thinking, and a genuine love of learning.
The school will open in fall 2026, initially serving students in grades 1 through 5, with plans to expand our services through grade 12 in the near future.
Our campus is supported by Clonlara School’s 58+ years of progressive education expertise and its global pedagogical team.
In fall 2026, our school will open in the former primary school building in Oledo—a space generously provided by the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova. This will be our home while we continue work on our new, permanent campus in Idanha.
Situated in the heart of the village, the Oledo space offers a unique opportunity for intergenerational connection; many local residents were once students in the very same building, which continues to host community activities for elders.
During our time in Oledo, we look forward to creating memories of shared stories and knowledge between generations, fostering an environment where everyone learns from one another.
The municipality of Idanha-a-Nova is located in the district of Castelo Branco, in a privileged location halfway between Lisbon and Madrid.
Idanha is part of the Geopark Naturtejo of Meseta Meridional, a UNESCO World Geopark, integrating the International Parque of Tejo. Idanha is classified as a City of Music within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. It is the first bio-region in Portugal, being part of the International Network of Bio-Regions.
Our school community is lucky to enjoy an area endowed with a unique beauty and rich historical and cultural heritage.
At Clonlara School Idanha, we are more than just a team—we are a community of lifelong learners and educators. Every day, we learn from one another, grow together, and inspire the next generation to do the same.
Because education isn’t just about teaching—it’s about continuous learning, curiosity, and the joy of discovery.
Our campus team is further supported by a global community of around 90 collaborators from all over the world, with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, who work closely together on the various projects Clonlara develops.

Clonlara School is proud to be accredited by the following organizations: Accreditation International (AI), the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA-CESS), and the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA).
The licensing process for Clonlara School Idanha is underway with the Ministry of Education in Portugal and is expected to be completed by the time the school opens for the 2026–2027 academic year.
We believe that the school should allow students to take part in designing and implementing their own curriculum. When students’ personal interests guide their educational activities, their motivation increases and their learning becomes more integrated and lasting. Every aspect of a student’s development deserves attention: physical, emotional, and cognitive.
We believe that learning begins with curiosity. Clonlara sees the world as a limitless classroom and considers the learning environment an integral part of the learning process. Academic instruction and skill mastery are not confined to a single space or location. At home, at school, and beyond, there is fertile ground for learning.
Our approach to education fosters a lifelong love of learning.

While we operate at the former primary school in Oledo, we will simultaneously continue the development and renovation work for our new, permanent campus in Idanha.
The new campus project includes the initial rehabilitation of an existing building in Idanha and a future expansion of its constructed area to support the school’s growing needs. With the new campus, we look toward expanding our services up to grade 12 in the near future!
