The Clonlara Commons
The Clonlara Commons is a secure, online "village of interaction" for our enrolled families. It allows for communication, classes and collaboration among parents, staff and students. The Commons gives you instant access to the resources that Clonlara and home educators have had the greatest success using.
The Commons allows for all this communication and sharing between all Clonlara enrollees, regardless of location. Students from Sweden can collaborate on a project with students in New York. Parents in Michigan can support their counterparts in Texas, and everyone can get the latest news on the home educating front in Germany. Below is an introduction to what you will find when your enrollment and access to the Commons has been processed.
![]() The Commons is the hub of our online learning community. It gives you the opportunity to be part of a wide variety of learning experiences, ranging from learning focused conferences to Unit Studies and Course Outlines. When you log into the Commons, you are at your desk. Here you can read and respond to email, work on projects, electronically access your planner, and plan your day. When you finish your work at your desk and want to talk with other learners, parents and advisors, you can click on the Earth icon to enter the common area.
From there, you can see the entire Commons. Each building holds different conferences about a wide variety of topics. If you are a parent, you can go the Cafe and talk with other parents in the Clonlara Community about the joys and challenges of home learning. If you are a "tween" learner, you can go to the Tweens conference in the same building and connect with others your age.
If you are a learner, parent or mentor who would like to learn more about a Languages Art topic, discuss ideas or exchange resources and strategies, you can click on our our Language Arts Building and interact with other learners, parents, and staff anytime of day or night. If you would like to learn more about how to get started learning in a topic, you can enter a room and click on a Quick Start topic on the Commons or if you'd like to have a more structured course, you can click on a Course Outline.
You can choose which is best for you and your learners and become an active participant in a dynamic online learning process. Clonlara is beginning to offer mentor-led courses. Our students will be able to participate in such courses on a variety of topics and skills. We offered our first writing course, this spring. We're very excited about this new service. Check back for more updates on our offerings. |
