Discover the joy of learning!

Campus School

Plan A Visit Now Thank you for your interest in the Clonlara Campus School...   And congratulations on your decision to search for the best learning environment to suit your child's style, needs, curiosities and talents.   We hope that you will choose to enroll in our program when you discover all the possibilities that Clonlara has to offer.

The Clonlara Campus program dwells in a 17,500 square foot building in the center of Ann Arbor. It is surrounded by an acre of play and open space, complete with a garden that the students maintain, a tree fort currently under construction, a great slope for sledding, swings, sandbox, and climbing gyms.

In addition to our "real" building, we have a virtual, discrete online community called the Clonlara Commons.

The information below will give you basic orientation to our school; however, please note that we ask you to schedule a visit to the building.   It is very difficult to find adequate prose to describe just how unique we are.

Clonlara is a learning community that integrates each student's curiosity, strengths, interests and talents into a comprehensive learning plan.   We believe in non-compulsory and non-coercive learning.

Our learning sessions are designed around the students who attend Clonlara.   There is not a pre-established, static curriculum where we expect students to choose what we have created.   HOW students go about learning skills and earning credit, ultimately in order to graduate and enter college or the workforce, is what makes us so unique.   Every student who comes to Clonlara is recognized, acknowledged, supported, encouraged and challenged as an individual.   That is part of what being small is all about.   No one disappears into the crowd.

We organize students according to age rather than grade level.   The Youngers Program is for 5 – 10 year olds; the Middles Program is for 11 – 14 year olds and the Olders Program is for 15 – 18 year olds.

Each program is capped at 20 students.   The ratio of staff to students is 1:8.   The school day begins at 8:45 AM and ends at 3:15 PM.

On Campus, classes are taught in core academic areas:   Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies for Kindergarten through the 12th grade.   Electives are offered in Music, Drama, Art and Physical Education.   There is project based learning time built in to the schedule, as are weekly field trips, and time for independent and group work.

There are three full time Instructors and five adjunct instructors.   All staff members collaborate with secondary students as they plan their journey to graduation; they work with the primary students as mentors and instructors.

Visiting us is a must.   Young people recognize immediately whether or not they can see themselves in this environment.   The proof is in their level of comfort while they learn and thrive at Clonlara.   It is our job to provide an environment where each person feels comfortable being who they are.   The key is in your learner.   Come see us.   We are excited to introduce you to the unique, enduring legacy we have created.
